Exposition : "les 177" de Fernando Costa

As a committed artist, Fernando Costa wanted to pay tribute to the men whose courage and self-sacrifice helped liberate France from the Nazi invasion of the 3rd Reich. He chose the KIEFFER commando and its 177 volunteer French soldiers who took part in the landings on June 6, 1944 as part of commando N°4 under British command.
Deeply moved by their fight for freedom and their commitment to serving France, Fernando COSTA created a series of 177 sculptures (for the 177 soldiers) and 4 paintings (for commando n°4).
Each sculpture was cut from the body of a JEEP FORD built between April 8 and May 11, 1942. It is likely to have taken part in the Normandy landings. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, this work takes on its full meaning.
