Urkulu

Loop, Walking

The ports (or passes) of Cize have been frequented since protohistory and constitute a privileged sector for crossing the Pyrenees. The vestiges of this multimillennial use are sometimes discreet, others have resisted the assaults of time. Along a varied and short itinerary, you will have a remarkable overview of this historical wealth. Dolmen, cromlech and redoubt grouped on a single pass will be revealed after an easy walk. Then, you will have to climb up and walk on the limestone rock in order to discover the Urkulu karst, whose history goes far beyond the human scale. A few meters to climb and the tower of Urkulu will appear. Perched on a summit of the same name, this tower of Roman origin fits harmoniously into the landscape. It offers a remarkable panorama of these vast spaces where the pastoral tradition remains.
