Olhadübi, par la passerelle d'Holzarte

Loop, Walking

A beautiful loop to contemplate the world of Basque canyons. Carved out 80 million years ago by the Olhadübi torrent, the Holtzarte gorges, 100 to 300 metres deep, are among the most spectacular in the Basque Country. In fact, "Holtze arte" means "between walls" in Basque. A path, quite steep at times, leads to an impressive footbridge built in 1925 by Italians for the exploitation of the forest. Crossing it is a great moment and presents no danger, but some people still close their eyes... An old track joins the top of the canyon, allowing to go up by a beautiful path towards the high souletin pastoral world. The views of the Larrau mountains, including the peak of Orhi, the first 2000 m from the Basque coast, are magnificent.
