Hendaye is the ideal destination for family holidays in the Basque Country thanks to its bay that is protected from strong ocean waves and its array of entertainment during the school holidays !
The main beach
Hendaye beach, the 3-kilometre fine sandy beach with a gentle slope, is one of the safest in Aquitaine!
This beach is also a good compromise for both novice surfers and more experienced, thrill-seeking surfers.
Beach attendants offer various services, including tent and deckchair hire, and there are also children’s beach clubs. In summer, sandcastle competitions are followed by Zumba lessons and yoga sessions for beginners.
Lifeguards supervise the beach every day in summer from 9:30am to 7pm and at weekends from June to September, from 11am to 7pm.
Free beach entertainment in summer:
- Introduction to Zumba on the beach, Monday at 10:30am
- Sandcastle competition, Wednesday at 10:30am
- Yoga, Friday, at 10:30am
Surfing and other water sports
Thanks to its shape in the form of a bay, Hendaye beach can be enjoyed whatever the tide and is especially suitable for both beginners and more experienced surfers: it is the “green piste” of surfing!
The waves are there for you to enjoy yourself, not to scare yourself.
Txingudi Bay is a great place to learn sailing and kayaking. You can even try your hand at the thrilling sports of jet-skiing and fly-surfing.
Accompanied by state-qualified monitors and aficionados of the Basque sea floor, Hendaye and its surrounding waters will be the setting for your first snorkelling excursions and other diving sessions during remarkable trips out at sea.
